Politics don’t change our mission: How to lead a healthcare organization amid uncertainty in DC
The healthcare policy turmoil that defined 2017 is enough to give anyone whiplash, political affiliation and occupation aside. Yet aside from a handful of regulatory changes, such as the rollback of some bundled payment initiatives, federal healthcare policy has not actually changed in the past year. The ACA is still in place; Medicaid expansion lives. On November 14, Prism hosted “Politics don’t change our mission: A candid conversation for healthcare executives moving forward regardless of events in Washington, D.C.,” a private executive roundtable event in conjunction with Becker’s Hospital Review 6th Annual CEO + CFO Roundtable in Chicago. Panelists included:
- Howard Dean, MD, Former Chairman, Democratic National Committee and Former Governor of Vermont
- Maureen A. Kahn, RN, MHA, MSN, President and Chief Executive Officer, Blessing Health System and Blessing Hospital
- Ramona Lacy, FACHE, Managing Partner, Prism Healthcare Partners
- Moderated by Molly Gamble, Editor-in-Chief, Becker’s Hospital Review
Here is a summary of insights from the discussion, which include perspectives on U.S. healthcare policy, the operational and financial opportunities healthcare leaders can prioritize today, and how leaders can stay focused on advancing their organizations’ strategic mission.
